A September Birthday - Tanner's 5th!

Tanner turned 5 in September and he was so excited that his birthday had finally arrived! He has to wait through the summer while his brothers have their birthdays and the anticipation was killing him. Since I'm not much of a cake decorator I took him to Sam's Club to pick out a cake. He choose this Cars themed cake. It was delicious and a hit with the crowd. Tanner blew out the candles on his cake the Sunday night before his birthday since on his actual birthday he had a t-ball game.

That night he received a small Playmobil set and a skateboard.
He had really been wishing and hoping for a skateboard, but it turned out to be trickier than he thought it would be to skateboard. Until he gets a little better he has been relegated to practicing on the lawn. He needs to get the hang of the whole balance thing. He was delighted with his gifts.
On the day of his birthday we held back one gift so that he would have something to open on the big day.
He received a large Playmobil firetruck set. He and Ethan have made our downstairs future bathroom that's off our family room their official Playmobil play room.

My parents came by a couple of days later to give Tanner their gift.
He and Ethan carefully examined it and declared it a hit.
That's one happy boy.
Brian's mom and dad always host birthday dinners for the birthday boy/girl on a Sunday night close to their birthday. We had Tanner's celebration the Sunday after his birthday. He wanted to have hot dogs, hamburgers and a salad for the grown-ups. He also requested a Rocky Road cake. He loves all the marshmallows on top.
Tanner happens to share his birthday with one of his favorite uncles, Mat. They got to share a birthday dinner and luckily wanted the same foods, although Mat chose brownies for his dessert if I remember right.
Soon it was time for more gifts!
Tanner got this gadget that tosses disks in the air that he has to try and catch.
The big hit was the Trouble game that he unwrapped. He and Ethan have played it several times a week since Tanner received it. I love it since it's a game that they can play without supervision and it's easy to clean up! This game was definitely a hit.

Thanks to everyone who helped make Tanner's birthday a great success! Tanner was also thrilled to be able to go to the library and pick up his very own library card. This is something that he has been looking forward to since Ethan got his a couple of years ago. He now has his own card to check out his books on and he couldn't be happier. We love you Tanner!
