In our house we take turns with Family Home Evening assignments, including the lesson. We try to guide the boys a bit in choosing their lesson subjects, but it can make for some pretty entertaining family nights. This last Monday it was Tanner's turn to do the lesson and he choose to do a lesson on fire safety. Now this wasn't the first time we've had such a lesson. He's actually taught us this about this particular subject a couple of times, most recently after one of his preschool classmates died in a fire. However, this was the first time he'd taught this lesson at our new house.
When he first got underway Ethan rolled his eyes and said "We've already done this before!" Imagine his surprise when he was completely taken by surprise when Tanner asked where our meeting spot was. That was when it dawned on Ethan that we hadn't selected a meeting place for our new home. Once that was selected Tanner had us practice some drills and then we tested all of our fire alarms. I'd never payed much attention to them before, but our new home has 10 smoke detectors! We only had two at our last house. One needed batteries and we were delighted to find that they are all wired together so that they all sound when one goes off. Bradon did not like the testing portion of the evening at all! We discovered that we do need to purchase a fire escape ladder for the second floor of our home and we need another carbon monoxide alarm for upstairs. Thank goodness for Tanner and his great fire safety lessons!
