This and That project update

One of the worst looking rooms in our home has to be our upstairs bathroom. Sadly I didn't take any pictures of how bad it looked before we started renovating this room as well. It had lovely pink tile and one of the world's ugliest wallpapers on the walls. Really. This wallpaper belonged in the ugly wallpaper hall of fame. It looked like aluminum foil with sad looking birds and flowers painted on. Yuck. I've been intimidated by the bathroom for a long time because once I pulled up a corner of the wallpaper and saw the horrible looking thick glue that was underneath.

Well, it had to come down and so we peeled it off and then we started scraping. And scraping. And scraping. The glue was thick and old and took forever to get off. Brian worked at it. I worked at it. My mom worked at it and finally we got it all off. Almost. We knew that we were just going to put up the same mirror that we had before so we didn't take the wallpaper off there because we were just too tired. That project will belong to someone else who one day decides they want a more attractive mirror in the bathroom.

We hired someone from The Tub Doctor to come and spray and coat our wall and countertop tiles so that now they look white and bright instead of pink and pathetic. Then we got all the wallpaper off and painted the walls with our favorite donated paint color. Once again thanks to my cousin, Brandon, for all the free paint. During this phase while our remodeling projects were finishing up my mom and I began work on decluttering and cleaning the whole house. This was quite a lot of work since apparently I like to keep a lot of junk on hand. One day while my mom packed up all of our winter gear Tanner came across my awesome ski goggles and took a liking to them. He wore them everywhere for about a week. Doesn't he look great?

He even wore the goggles when we went to lunch at the Golden Corral (a favorite of my boys). He had his awesome ski goggles on top of his head and sat at the table singing "Pants on the Ground" from American Idol. Oh, to be four.

Meanwhile our kitchen was coming together. We bought our countertop at Sutherlands because that was the only place where we could find a 12' piece of laminate. And it turns out that they have a better selection than Home Depot or Lowe's.

And Ikea finally got the 15" base cabinet in that we needed. Tanner and Bradon discovered that it made a nice and cozy little hiding place.

All of our workers were busy putting the finishing touches on the kitchen. Including the 15" doors that were also not in stock but finally came in when the base cabinet did.It's almost finished and looking so great! Hooray!

How would it be to be able to say that you fit nicely into a 12" cabinet? Only Bradon can tell you.

Soon we'll be able to say goodbye to the lovely tarp in our living room. We won't miss it! Our precious little boys have been so good about making the best of the situation. We love them.
